UpdateStar shares ad revenue with software developers

August 01, 2008 -  UpdateStar is the #1 source for complete software information - on the web as well as on a user’s desktop. Software developers can now join the newly-launched "Share" program, an advertising revenue sharing program. Developers can register and use the updatestar.com portal as their download mirror and receive a significant portion of shared ad revenue created with their content - the software programs they produce. This way even freeware authors can establish a new, substantial revenue stream by partnering with UpdateStar. The Share program is open to commercial software vendors as well as shareware and freeware authors.

UpdateStar’s software search engine allows users to access a very large software database. With more than 95.000 recognized software programs UpdateStar has for many users quickly become one of the primary sources for complete software information. The UpdateStar freeware client provides users with a free world-class service by keeping a PC's software up-to-date, increasing a user's security and productivity. UpdateStar currently provides users with program update information for 2.5 million installations - daily.

How ad revenue sharing works

Many software authors use download mirrors such as download.com, albeit without receiving margins. UpdateStar aims at changing that. The new Share program lets software authors participate in revenue created using their content, because UpdateStar "shares" ad revenue with their partners.
This way UpdateStar offers authors of freeware software and shareware vendors a new recurring revenue stream. Once registered, UpdateStar splits the revenue created from your UpdateStar product pages 50/50 with the partner.

There are basically two ways that software authors create ad revenue together with UpdateStar:

  • From linking directly from the developer website to UpdateStar product pages as a download mirror
  • From repeated download traffic to UpdateStar product pages caused by update alerts via the UpdateStar freeware client, with its constantly-growing installation base linking to the product pages

Authors receive a monthly report from UpdateStar about their Share program performance, which tells them exactly how much they are earning from the Share program.

Software vendors as well as freeware authors may apply for the Share program on the Share webpage. The website also offers additional information on successfully participating in the Share program.
